The Suez Canal is an artificial sea - level waterway in Egypt that connects the Mediterranean Sea to the Red Sea through the Isthmus of Suez. It was constructed by the Suez Canal Company between 1859 and 1869. The canal offers watercraft a shorter journey between the North Atlantic and northern Indian Oceans via the Mediterranean and Red Seas by avoiding the South Atlantic and southern Indian Oceans.
The Suez Canal allows transportation by water between Europe and Asia without navigation around Africa. The northern terminus is port Said and the southern terminus is port Tawfiq at the city of Suez.
Suez canal is the one of the most heavily used shipping routes in the world. The construction of Suez canal begins on 25 April 1859.
