What is Langar :-

A langar is like a kitchen where food is served for free without any discrimination. The langar is first prepared and then served to the sangat by sitting in lines.

Everyone can come to the langar whether he belongs to any caste or community whether he is rich or poor.

Where to find langar : -

Langar must be a in Gurdwara Sahib or at the place where Guru Granth Sahib Ji is seated.

Many a times when there is a calamity where the food is needed the servants of the Guru's house deliver the langar. Wherever Nishan Sahib appears there will be langar.

Everyone is welcomed in the langar.

Those who prepare this langar are called langri. When the food is ready then Ardas is offered then that food is distributed to the whole Sangat.

Where does the money for langar come from :-

The langar was started by Guru Nanak with twenty rupees. The langar is run only with the Dasvandh of the Sangat. Sikhs or many other sangats donate one tenth of their income for langar which is called dasvandh. With him and by the grace of Guru Maharaj the langar continues.
